On May 21, 2026, social media analyst Matt Navarra noticed something unusual on the App Store — a new app from Meta that had appeared without a press release, without a campaign, and without any of the fanfare that usually accompanies a platform launch. The app was called Forum. And within hours of Navarra’s post, the conversation around what Meta was quietly building had already begun.
What Forum Is
Meta has introduced a new standalone mobile application called Forum, aiming to transform how users interact within Facebook Groups. The app shifts focus away from the usual social media timeline and instead prioritizes discussion-based engagement, recommendations, and community conversations — a format that closely resembles platforms like Reddit.
According to Meta, Forum is designed as a dedicated space built for deeper discussions, real answers, and the communities you care about. The company said the app targets users who actively participate in Facebook Groups and want a cleaner, conversation-focused environment separate from the traditional Facebook feed.
How It Works in Practice
To use Forum, you need a Facebook account, and your existing Groups membership, profile, and activity are seamlessly transferred from Facebook into the new app. Forum removes most of the Facebook feed and mainly focuses on conversations within Groups.
One privacy detail worth noting immediately. The app uses anonymized usernames similar to Reddit. Group admins can see a user’s real identity, but other members only see the username they chose during interactions.
