Stéphane Rolland’s Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2023/2024 collection was a tribute to the legendary opera singer Maria Callas, marking the centenary of her birth. The collection was presented in the grand setting of the Opéra Garnier in Paris, where models walked along the mosaic floors and up the white marble staircases to the sound of Callas’ recordings.

The collection featured 31 dresses, each embodying the essence of Callas’ presence and the drama of the operas she starred in. The designs were minimalist and graphic, often with cubic volumes, showcasing both boldness and fragility. The color palette was predominantly black and white, with strategic uses of red and gold to add opulence and sophistication.

Highlights included a trapeze dress in white wool gazar with an open back and porcelain flower embroidery, and a long black strapless dress in crepe and velvet adorned with a false diamond fan plastron. These pieces, among others, were well-suited for a night at the opera or an elegant evening out.

The show was filmed by French director Claude Lelouch, who plans to use the footage in his next movie, “Finalement,” set to be shown at a state dinner at the Opéra Garnier prior to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games1234.
