Puma’s Partnership With Rihanna and Fenty Ends

Rihanna’s historic relationship with Puma officially began in December 2014 when she signed a groundbreaking multi-year deal to become Puma’s global brand ambassador and Creative Director for their Women’s Training line. Hoping to revitalize its women’s category and bridge the gap between performance gear and lifestyle fashion, Puma brought the pop icon directly into its German headquarters to head design direction.

When Rihanna joined Puma in 2014, the brand was still looking for a stronger foothold in hype culture. The success of the Fenty x Puma collections quickly shifted that momentum. The Puma Creeper became one of the biggest sneaker releases of its era, blending punk-inspired platform styling with classic Puma Suede DNA. Demand exploded almost immediately with many colorways selling out instantly and gaining strong resale value.

In 2023, after Rihanna crushed her Super Bowl Halftime performance, Puma posted a “She’s Back” teaser on Instagram with her Fenty logo. Her first collab after returning to the brand dropped in September 2023, and since then the Fenty x Puma partnership released over twenty different sneakers.

But the second chapter never quite matched the first. Competition became significantly more crowded, trend cycles moved faster, and nearly every major sportswear brand began investing aggressively into women-focused product and storytelling. The second era never captured the same energy as the first.

This newer range of sneakers did not have the same effect and was unable to stand out in what had become a very saturated women’s market.

How the End Was Announced Without Words

The clearest signal came from the street. Paparazzi recently caught Rihanna in a pair of Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoes which is a striking switch for an artist usually loyal to her active brand partners. That public appearance in a direct competitor essentially announced her free agency before any formal statement landed.

To solidify the speculation, the dedicated Fenty x Puma landing page officially vanished from Puma’s website. For anyone still waiting for official confirmation, the empty URL said everything
