How to Find Your Skin Undertone

5 Easy Tests You Can Do at Home

Many people know their skin tone- fair, medium, or dark, but they get confused about undertone. Your undertone is the subtle color beneath your skin that never changes, and knowing it helps you choose the right foundation, lipstick, hair color, and even clothes.

There are three main undertones: Warm, Cool, and Neutral. Here is how to find yours at home.

1. The Vein Test

Look at the veins on your inner wrist under natural daylight.

If your veins look greenish, you are likely warm. If they look blue or purple, you are cool. If you see a mix of both, you are neutral.

2. The Jewelry Test

Try on gold and silver jewelry side by side.

Gold usually flatters warm undertones and makes the skin glow. Silver flatters cool undertones. If both look equally good on you, you are probably neutral.

3. The White Paper Test

Hold a plain white sheet of paper next to your bare face in front of a mirror.

If your skin looks yellowish or golden next to the white, you are warm. If it looks pinkish, rosy, or slightly bluish, you are cool. If you cannot really tell, you are neutral.

4. The Sun Reaction Test

Think about how your skin reacts to sun exposure.

People who tan easily and rarely burn usually have warm undertones. Those who burn quickly and tan slowly usually have cool undertones. If you burn first then tan, you are likely neutral.

5. The Color Test

Pay attention to which colors make you shine.

Orange, yellow, olive green, mustard, and warm reds look best on warm undertones. Blue, purple, emerald green, icy tones, and cool pinks look best on cool undertones. If you look good in almost any color, you are neutral.

What to Do Once You Know

For Foundation:Look for labels like warm, golden, yellow (W) if you are warm. Look for cool, pink, rosy (C) if you are cool. Choose neutral or beige (N) if you are neutral.

For Lipstick: Warm undertones glow in coral, orange-red, and brick. Cool undertones pop in berry, mauve, and blue-red. Neutrals can wear both.

For Hair Color:Warm suits honey blonde, caramel, and copper. Cool suits ash blonde, platinum, and burgundy.

Final Tip:Always check your undertone in natural daylight, not under yellow indoor bulbs. Your surface tone can change with seasons, but your undertone stays the same.
